Teledermatology Policy

< Back to policies & procedures

By telling us about skin lesions and sending in photographs, we can often give advice and arrange treatment for skin lesions and rashes. It is not, however, always a substitute for seeing a doctor face to face. There may be a difference between the accuracy of the clinical care using photographs as compared to face-to-face clinical assessment.

With your permission, your photographs will be securely stored with in your confidential electronic patient record. The photographs will be viewed by an assessing clinician who will aim to contact you with advice, usually within one week. They will only be accessed by clinicians specifically involved in the treatment of this skin problem.

The photographs will not be used for any other purpose without seeking additional consent.

When emailing in photographs via this link, please state that you consent to your photographs being added to your health record. If this is not indicated in your email, then a member of our reception team will email you to request this consent before directing the photograph onto a doctor.

Please do not send in photographs of children without first talking to a doctor and under no circumstances send in photos of children's genitalia - whatever the skin condition. To do so is illegal.

For you own safety and to reduce the risk of photographs being accidentally uploaded on to other platforms, we would advise that after sending your photographs, that you delete the photographs from your phone and take steps to ensure that they are not uploaded to a "cloud".
